The basics

What are OB-GYN billing services?

OB-GYN billing services manage the revenue cycle of an obstetrics and gynecology practice: global maternity packages, deliveries, prenatal and postpartum care, office gynecology visits and procedures, obstetric ultrasound, contraception, payment posting, denials and AR. In OB-GYN, most errors come from billing the package at the wrong time or missing what sits outside it.

Obstetrics

Global maternity

Gynecology

Office gynecology

Well-woman visits, problem visits and in-office procedures like colposcopy and biopsy.

Imaging

Obstetric ultrasound

Scans by trimester and gestation, with professional and technical components.

Preventive

Contraception and screening

IUDs, implants and preventive services billed so eligible patients pay nothing.

Pricing

How OB-GYN billing is priced

One rate of 2.8% to 5% of net collections, quoted in writing before you sign. Where you land depends on monthly collections, specialty mix, the scope of services, and your AR backlog and payer mix.

The rate covers medical coding, claim submission, payment posting, denials and AR follow-up. Front desk services, prior authorization, the reporting dashboard, patient statements, credentialing and digital marketing are quoted separately.

OB-GYN billing questions

What do OB-GYN billing services include?

Eligibility and prior authorization, global maternity packages, prenatal and postpartum care, deliveries, office gynecology visits and procedures, obstetric ultrasound, IUD and contraception services, preventive well-woman visits, payment posting, denials, AR follow-up and patient billing.

How is global maternity care billed?

Routine prenatal visits, the delivery and routine postpartum care are billed together with one global code after delivery, such as 59400 for a vaginal delivery or 59510 for a cesarean. Partial care uses delivery-only, delivery-and-postpartum or antepartum-only codes.

What if the patient changes practices during pregnancy?

Each practice bills only the care it gave: antepartum-only codes 59425 or 59426 for 4 or more visits, office E/M codes for 1 to 3 visits, and delivery-only or delivery-and-postpartum codes for the delivering practice.

Can problem visits during pregnancy be billed separately?

Yes, when the visit is for a condition outside routine prenatal care, such as a separate illness, and is documented that way. These are billed with an E/M code and the right diagnosis.

How are obstetric ultrasounds billed?

By type and gestational age, such as 76801 and 76805 for first and later trimester scans, with add-on codes for additional gestations and the technical and professional components split by who owns the equipment and who reads.

Do you bill IUD insertion and contraception?

Yes. The insertion or removal procedure is billed with its CPT code and the device with its HCPCS code, with preventive coverage rules applied so eligible patients are not billed.

How much do OB-GYN billing services cost?

PhysiAssist charges 2.8% to 5% of net collections for coding, claims, payment posting, denials and AR, quoted in writing before you sign.

What is in the free OB-GYN billing audit?

We review recent maternity, office procedure and ultrasound claims and send a written report: global package and partial care coding, missed billable problem visits, ultrasound components, device billing, denials by root cause and the dollar value of each.
