Neurology medical billing, counted right

PhysiAssist runs neurology billing and revenue cycle management for neurology groups and neurosurgery practices. Certified coders count every nerve conduction study, match EEG monitoring to the right duration and level, bill IVIG and MS infusions by the unit, and code spine and cranial cases with their global periods, so diagnostic and procedure claims are paid the first time.

The basics

What are neurology billing services?

Neurology billing services manage the revenue cycle of a neurology or neurosurgery practice: eligibility and prior authorization, coding of visits and diagnostic studies such as EMG, nerve conduction and EEG, infusions, sleep studies and surgical procedures, claim submission, payment posting, denials, AR follow-up and patient billing. Most neurology revenue sits in diagnostics and procedures, where counting and modifier rules decide what gets paid.

Electrodiagnostics

EMG and nerve conduction

Study counts, EMG add-ons per extremity, and the diagnosis that supports each nerve tested.

EEG

EEG and long-term monitoring

Routine, ambulatory and video EEG with technical and professional components billed by duration.

Infusions

IVIG and MS infusions

Drug units, administration codes, authorizations and site-of-care rules by payer.

Sleep

Sleep studies

In-lab and home sleep tests, CPAP titration and compliance for neurology-run sleep labs.

Neurosurgery

Spine and cranial surgery

Global periods, co-surgeon and assistant modifiers, navigation and neuromonitoring.

Neurosurgery billing services

Spine and cranial cases, coded to the operative note

A single spine case can carry a primary procedure, add-on levels, instrumentation, grafts, navigation, neuromonitoring and a second surgeon. Our coders build it from the operative note and follow high-dollar claims until they are paid.

Global periods

90-day packages

Pre-op and post-op visits inside the global, and modifiers 24, 57, 58, 78 and 79 when work falls outside it.

Navigation and monitoring

Stereotactic navigation and intraoperative neuromonitoring billed by the right provider.

Pricing

How neurology billing is priced

One rate of 2.8% to 5% of net collections, quoted in writing before you sign. Where you land depends on monthly collections, specialty mix, the scope of services, and your AR backlog and payer mix.

The rate covers medical coding, claim submission, payment posting, denials and AR follow-up. Front desk services, prior authorization, the reporting dashboard, patient statements, credentialing and digital marketing are quoted separately.

Neurology billing questions

What do neurology billing services include?

Eligibility and prior authorization, coding of visits, EMG and nerve conduction studies, EEG and long-term monitoring, neurology infusions and sleep studies, neurosurgery coding with global periods, claim submission, payment posting, denials, AR follow-up and patient billing.

How are nerve conduction studies billed?

Nerve conduction studies are billed with one code for the total number of studies in the session: 95907 for 1–2 studies up to 95913 for 13 or more. Each motor, sensory and H-reflex study counts once, and an F-wave is counted with its motor study. EMG done in the same session is added with 95885, 95886 or 95887.

How is long-term EEG monitoring billed?

Long-term EEG uses separate setup, technical and professional codes (95700–95726). The technical code depends on the duration and on whether monitoring was unmonitored, intermittent or continuous; the professional code depends on the duration and whether video was reviewed.

Do you bill neurology infusions?

Yes: IVIG and multiple sclerosis drugs such as ocrelizumab (J2350) and natalizumab (J2323), with drug units by HCPCS, administration codes, prior authorization and site-of-care rules by payer.

Do you bill neurosurgery?

Yes. We code spine and cranial procedures with their global periods, co-surgeon and assistant modifiers, navigation and intraoperative neuromonitoring, implants and multiple-procedure rules, and follow up on high-dollar claims until they are paid.

Do you bill sleep studies for neurology groups?

Yes: in-lab polysomnography (95810), CPAP titration (95811) and home sleep tests (95806, 95800), with medical necessity documentation and the CPAP compliance tracking Medicare requires.

How much do neurology billing services cost?

PhysiAssist charges 2.8% to 5% of net collections, quoted in writing before you sign. Collections volume, services, scope, AR backlog and payer mix decide where you land.

What is in the free EMG/NCS and procedure audit?

We review recent EMG, nerve conduction, EEG and procedure claims and send a written report: study-count and unit errors, missing or wrong modifiers, authorization gaps, denials by root cause and the dollar impact of each.
