Cardiology billing services, every component counted

PhysiAssist runs billing for cardiology practices: office visits and testing, the cath lab, pacemakers and ICDs, remote monitoring, and vein and vascular care. We split every test into the right global, professional and technical claims, track device check intervals, and get imaging authorized before the test.

The basics

What are cardiology billing services?

Cardiology billing services manage the revenue cycle of a cardiology practice: office visits, echocardiography, stress testing, monitoring, cardiac cath, pacemakers and ICDs, remote device monitoring, vein and vascular procedures, payment posting, denials and AR. In cardiology most money is lost where one test is split between the practice, a reader and a hospital.

Office

Testing

Echo, nuclear and exercise stress, Holter and event monitors, with global, 26 and TC split correctly.

Cath lab

Cath and devices

Diagnostic and interventional cath, stents, pacemakers and ICDs.

Monitoring

Remote monitoring

Device interrogations, remote checks and monitoring periods by their frequency rules.

Vascular

Vein and vascular

Vein ablation, sclerotherapy and peripheral interventions with the documentation payers need.

Pricing

How cardiology billing is priced

One rate of 2.8% to 5% of net collections, quoted in writing before you sign. Where you land depends on monthly collections, specialty mix, the scope of services, and your AR backlog and payer mix.

The rate covers medical coding, claim submission, payment posting, denials and AR follow-up. Front desk services, prior authorization, the reporting dashboard, patient statements, credentialing and digital marketing are quoted separately.

Cardiology billing questions

What do cardiology billing services include?

Eligibility and prior authorization, coding of office visits, echocardiography, stress testing, Holter and event monitoring, diagnostic and interventional cardiac cath, pacemakers and ICDs, device checks and remote monitoring, vascular and vein procedures, payment posting, denials, AR follow-up and patient billing.

When do you bill global, 26 or TC for cardiac tests?

If the practice owns the equipment and its cardiologist reads the study, bill the global code. If an outside physician reads it, the practice bills the technical component (TC) and the reader bills the professional component (26). In a hospital outpatient setting, the cardiologist bills 26 and the hospital bills the technical portion.

How is a cardiac stress test billed?

Exercise stress testing uses component codes rather than modifiers: 93015 for the global service, or 93016 for supervision, 93017 for the tracing and 93018 for interpretation when the parts are done by different parties.

How are pacemakers and ICDs billed?

Implants, generator changes and leads have their own codes, and follow-up is billed as in-person interrogation or remote monitoring, each with its own frequency rules. We track the interval since the last check so each claim is billable.

Do you need prior authorization for cardiac imaging?

Many commercial plans and Medicare Advantage plans require it for nuclear stress tests, cardiac CT and echocardiography, often through a radiology benefit manager. We submit and track those approvals before the test. See our prior authorization services.

Do you bill vein and vascular procedures?

Yes. Vein ablation, sclerotherapy and peripheral interventions are billed with the documentation payers require, such as ultrasound findings and a trial of compression where the policy asks for it.

How much do cardiology billing services cost?

PhysiAssist charges 2.8% to 5% of net collections for coding, claims, payment posting, denials and AR, quoted in writing before you sign.

What is in the free cardiology billing audit?

We review recent testing, cath lab and device claims and send a written report: global, 26 and TC errors, stress test components, device check frequency, authorizations, denials by root cause and the dollar value of each.
